Now that the smell of ribs cooking on the grill has just about left our nasal passages, it’s time again to start planning for Rib Fest 2007. We are in need of fun members who want to make this year’s Rib Fest a huge success. I am confident the experience and energy that the BEC members possess will help us surpass last year’s income. What the heck, Dan K. can’t lose here; if we don’t surpass last year’s income, he can gloat as Rib Fest 2006 Chair. But when we do, he can say it was done under his presidential administration which begins just before the event. (We know that much of the planning occurred under the Oster admin., so an advance “atta boy” to Mike O!)
Annual Rib Fest held in conjunction with Gurnee Days will be held on August 11, in Viking Park. The 5th annual Rib Eating Contest will kickoff the event at 2:30 p.m. Local municipal organizations will team up to help raise money, and claim the traveling trophy. Following the contest the Exchange Club will open for business with their famous Baby Back Rib Dinner, including roasted corn, coleslaw, and roll. On the lighter side a pulled pork sandwich, and riblet sampler will be available, as well as hot dogs for the kids. Twisted Cow ice cream, gourmet cookies and chocolate pretzels will be available at our Sweet booth. A beer garden with a variety of refreshments will also be available. Admission is free, with a cost for food, and refreshments. A chance at the 50/50 raffle, with a guarantee of $1500.00 will go to the winner. Tickets can be bought the day of the event, or by calling Dolores @ (847) 244-3535.
